With so much other ringing going on in Cambridge (and everywhere!) on 6th May for the King's coronation, I thought I'd struggle to get six ringers, and resorted to 'bribery' of prosecco and cakes. I needn't have worried; 24 ringers turned up and rang, plus a 10 year old having his first go, and a baby! It was wonderful to see ringers from Great St Mary's, St Andrew the Great, St Bene't's, St Edwards, St Clement's, and a couple from out of town. New connections were made as we rang call changes and methods together. The refreshments were polished off too.

St Clement's Ringing Centre has acquired a set of 10 handbells thanks to the generosity of Gareth Davies, from whom they are on long term loan. The bells will be a hands-on way of explaining change ringing, both to the general public and to novice ringers. They have already been put to use when Park Street School paid us a visit on the eve of the coronation. The bells were cast by the Codnor foundry in Derbyshire, several decades ago.

It's official! We have been granted 'Teaching Centre' status by the Association of Ringing Teachers. This is also known as a 'Teaching Hub'. It's good to be recognised for the service we provide and the standards we keep.

Experience bells ringing for the King's coronation. Saturday 6th May, 9am till 10am. The bells of St Clement's Cambridge will be rung for an hour to mark the occasion. Drop into the church to watch the ringers, listen to the performance, and find out more.

We welcomed the Cambridge District for a 'handling' practice yesterday, where several people improved their ringing technique. You can see the screen showing the bells in the background!
